The Black Angels - Directions to See a Ghost (2008)
In category neo psychedelic rock, if the Lords of Altamont represent the industry trend cocainée-caffeinated Stooges, the Black Angels, which we now occupy, rather evolve into the family of opioid-valiumisés Velvet Underground with a chant, a mantra rather as the disembodied voice, exclusively male.
2 guitars, bass, drums and strange drone machines support this song, even if it can be considered dead, nevertheless extremely captivating and inhabited. The atmosphere is heavy without being planned cut (I admit it seems difficult to imagine, but this is the case here, heavy pieces of air escaping from pregnant as and measures of plays). As one commentator aptly stated above, one may ask what is the point of having cut the album in 11 tracks, as they form a whole which, at first listen, seem a bit repetitive peutt. But, and this is where the charm of the album works, it returns despite the confusing first impression. Over the plays we begin to guess the reliefs hidden behind this wall of guitar, and oppressing, little by little, the nuances are apparent, the colors and reveal that more consistency between the titles of repetition which we discover that discussed here.
Less than a stuffy
Black Mountain (with whom they are often compared), the Black Angels manage the feat of making them rock psychélique quite daunting at first, highly addictive ... It should however not be seen as a willingness to push the group's fans, each album more in the arms of the dangerous addiction, this one is merely musical.
