Arnaud Huber - You, Me & Morrissey (2010)
Houlaaaa then here So a book written by a fan of Morrissey? Before we even open the pages, the little that we can say is that we feared the worst. A fan of Morrissey, after all, can there be worse, what kind of fan can be more "fanatical" a thirty-year fan of Morrissey. I am not talking about pre-teen fans who worship their idols becaufe are "too crispy" no, these fans here you know what to expect, it is careful not to judge them becaufe is all a just been there, but fans thirtysomethings who have still not recovered from their admiration of youth, yes there really is is right shiver of horror!
So it's a bit backwards as we embarked therefore in any case in my case, reading this in You, Me & Morrissey. But very quickly we can rest assured, no, Arnaud Huber has nothing maniacal fan of Mose, let alone the Smiths, saying that he crossed his youth but that he was aware that later on. All this does not prevent him from attending the concert go to Morrissey Eurokéennes one day world cup football.
From there, navigating from Echobelly to Superdiscount, A-ha Veruca Salt, Arnaud Huber the back yard of his sentimental memory. His first love and teenage complexed, heartache and passion burning, everyone will find it a bit in this story. Coming and going from first to second person singular, the story seems to have two characters, a current Arnaud, 2 feet planted in the mud festival pending the final quarter of Brazil and France's double past. 2 voices that give relief to the story, made, not surprisingly therefore, many flashbacks. What comes to
Morrissey in all this? Arnaud and many a fan is quiet, rather than a fan for that matter, saying he appreciates and, as and when the pages will be understood better and better (we understand Arnaud I mean, finally, on reflection, we also understand that Arnaud appreciates Morrissey). Like the lyrics and the music of singer, which I am very far from being a specialist and I allow myself to speak more per print than actual scholarship, then, like the lyrics and the music of The Smiths, history Arnaud is quite nostalgic, hard being a teenager and rebellion in the Room, missed opportunities, shyness and romance of course. The sensitivity and romanticism of the author are conveniently illustrated by a feather touching without being maudlin or overly tortured awkwardly.
Finally we end up with a novel at the opposite of what one might fear, not of blind fanaticism and scholar, not corny stories teen praline, but memories of mess that you return to the figure, of déjà vu, of knowing smiles to the author even if you would rather be opted for You, Me & James Hetfield or You, Me & Bob Marley first choice.
style serving an emotion, a music service life is a bit Arnaud Huber and all this here is heartwarming!
